What is Pronouns?
Pronouns replace nouns to avoid repeating them. Subject pronouns are I, you, he, she, it, we and they; object pronouns are me, you, him, her, it, us and them. They are completed by possessives (my, mine) and reflexives (myself).
When to use it
You use them in every sentence. The subject is compulsory in English: you always say I, he, she, they, and so on. The object pronoun goes after the verb or a preposition: "She called me", "with them".
Common mistakes and tips for Spanish speakers
- Subject versus object: "I like her" (subject I, object her), but "She likes me". Do not mix I with me.
- It is used for objects, animals and for weather or time: "It is raining", "It is late".
- My and mine are not the same: "my book" takes a noun, "the book is mine" does not.
