On Friday morning, Ana woke up late. The room was dark, and her alarm clock was broken. She put on her jacket, took her bag, and found her shoes by the door. She did not turn on the light.
At school, her best friend Leo looked at her feet. "Ana," he said, "one shoe is red, and the other shoe is blue." Ana looked down. He was right! She wanted to go home, but the bell rang, and she had to go to class.
In the classroom, everybody laughed. Ana's face was red, like her shoe. Then Leo took off one of his shoes and changed it with a friend. "Look, I'm different too!" he said. Soon, all the children had two different shoes, and the classroom looked like a funny party.
At that moment, the teacher came in. "Good morning, class," said Mrs. Diaz. The children stopped laughing and looked at her feet. One sock was yellow, and the other sock was green. Mrs. Diaz smiled. "I got dressed in the dark today, too," she said.
