To ask for and give directions you need movement verbs (turn, go, cross), landmarks (corner, block, street) and cardinal points. Practice with a map: ask someone to guide you from one place to another using "turn left at the corner" and "go straight for two blocks".

Cross the street at the crosswalk.
The pharmacy is on the left.
The station is straight ahead.
He stopped to ask for directions.
