Every Saturday morning, Maria walks to the local market before the crowds arrive. She loves this quiet hour, when the smell of fresh bread mixes with the sound of vendors setting up their stalls. Today, she needs tomatoes, onions, and a ripe avocado to cook a healthy soup this weekend.
At the market, she meets her neighbor Carlos, a diligent gardener who grows his own vegetables. Maria fills her basket with fresh ingredients, and when it's time to pay, she reaches for her purse out of habit, only to realize it isn't there. She left it on the kitchen table that morning.
Carlos laughs and gently pushes the basket back toward her. "Don't worry about it," he says. "Pay me next Saturday. That's what neighbors are for." Maria feels embarrassed, but his patience and kindness touch her more than she expects.
As she walks home, Maria decides to bake cookies for Carlos as a thank-you, using the same recipe her grandmother used to make. She smiles, thinking that a forgotten wallet turned into the nicest start to her Saturday.
