What is Asking for directions?

Asking for and giving directions is a basic travel situation. It uses fixed phrases like "Excuse me, where is...?" and "How do I get to...?", together with place prepositions (next to, opposite, behind) and movement verbs (turn left, go straight, cross the street).

When to use it

Use it when traveling, when lost or when helping someone. Begin with a polite phrase such as "Excuse me" or "Could you tell me...?" and repeat the answer to check you understood.
