How to study this deck

These full phrases, like "watch a movie" or "take photos", teach you which verb goes with each activity. That is what is hardest when talking about free time: English says "play video games", "watch YouTube videos" or "listen to music", not "see" or "hear". Practice telling about your weekend with at least five of these phrases.

The trickiest words

  • watch / see: watch is used for something moving or lasting a while (TV, movies); see is general seeing.
  • listen to: it always takes to: "listen to music", not "listen music".
  • play: it is used with games ("play video games") and with instruments ("play the guitar").

Examples in context

  • We watch a movie every Friday.

  • She plays the piano beautifully.

  • The family plays cards after dinner.
