How to study this deck

Manner adverbs say how an action is done and most are formed by adding -ly to the adjective: quick, quickly. They usually go after the verb or the object: "She speaks slowly". Also learn the exceptions (good, well; fast, fast; hard, hard) and practice describing how your friends and family do things.

The trickiest words

  • well: it is the adverb of good: "She sings well", not "She sings good".
  • hardly: it does not mean "hard": it means almost not. The adverb of hard is hard.
  • fast: it is both an adjective and an adverb: "a fast car" and "He drives fast", never "fastly".

Examples in context

  • Take this seriously.

  • He deliberately ignored my message.
