How to study this deck
These verbs describe rises, falls and stability in charts, reports and economic news: soar, plummet, plateau, fluctuate. Group them by direction (up, down, steady) and by intensity (rise slightly, soar). Practice describing a chart or your own monthly expenses with at least five of them.
The trickiest words
- soar / plummet: soar is to rise very fast and plummet is to fall sharply. They are strong opposites.
- plateau: it means to stop rising and stay level. It is also a noun.
- fluctuate: it means to go up and down irregularly.
