Cómo se pronuncia

  • what

    "uat"/wʌt/

La wh suena como u: uat. La t final casi no se oye.

  • where

    "uer"/wɛr/

Suena igual que wear (ponerse ropa).

  • who

    "ju"/hu/

Aquí la wh suena j suave, no u.

  • why

    "uai"/waɪ/

Como la letra y en inglés: uai.

Comprueba

¿Por qué estás feliz? Why (hueco) you happy?

¿Qué? y ¿cuál?: what y which

Si hablas español: "cuál" casi siempre es what

En español dices "¿cuál es tu correo?". En inglés es what; which solo cuando eliges entre opciones.

Sin opciones

¿Cuál es tu correo?

What is your email?

Con opciones

¿Cuál quieres, el rojo o el azul?

Which one do you want, the red or the blue?

Ojo: "¿cuál es tu nombre?" es What is your name?, no which.

Si hablas español

Los errores que más se cometen

What you want?

What do you want?

Con otro verbo hace falta do o does.

How many years do you have?

How old are you?

La edad se pregunta con how old y be.

Why you are tired?

Why are you tired?

Be va antes del sujeto en la pregunta.

No lo confundas con because

Why is the bank closed?

Pregunta: ¿por qué?

Because it's Sunday.

Respuesta: porque

Why es la pregunta (¿por qué?) y because la respuesta (porque).

Parte 4: conjunciones

En la vida real

What's, where's y who's son formas cortas con is: What's your name? Where's the bathroom? Con are no se acorta por escrito.

Preguntas frecuentes

¿Cuál es la diferencia entre what y which?

What pregunta en general: What is your email? Which es para elegir entre pocas opciones: Which one, the red or the blue?

¿Por qué a veces no va do, como en Who lives here?

Cuando who pregunta por el sujeto (quién hace la acción), no lleva do: Who lives here? Who wants pizza? Con lo demás, sí: Who do you live with?

¿Cómo pregunto la hora?

What time is it? Y para un evento, what time + do o be: What time does the movie start?
