There is / There are en inglés: cómo decir "hay" (presente y pasado)
There is (singular) y there are (plural) son las dos formas de decir "hay" en inglés, y sí cambian según el número.

There is y there are se usan para decir que algo existe: "hay" en español. There is va con singular (There is a book on the table), there are va con plural (There are two books on the table). There was y there were son las mismas formas en pasado.

There's existe, there're no
"There is" se puede contraer a "there's" (There's a book on the table). "There are" NO tiene contracción: "there're" no existe y no se usa. Con el pasado tampoco hay contracciones: there was y there were se dicen completos.
Con una lista de cosas, concuerda con la primera
Cuando mencionas varias cosas seguidas, there is/are concuerda con la PRIMERA de la lista, no con el total: "There is a book and two pens on the table" (usa "is" porque "a book" es singular, aunque en total hay tres objetos).
Errores comunes de hispanohablantes
En español, "hay" no cambia nunca, sin importar si es uno o varios: "hay un perro", "hay dos perros". Por eso muchos hispanohablantes usan "there is" para todo, sin cambiar a "there are" cuando el sustantivo es plural. En inglés SÍ hay que cambiar: there is solo para singular, there are para plural.

¿Por qué muchos hispanohablantes confunden there is y there are?
