Present simple = hechos, rutinas, y verdades permanentes.
PRESENT SIMPLE: I work, she works, they work. Cuatro usos principales: (1) RUTINAS y HABITOS: "I drink coffee every morning." (2) VERDADES PERMANENTES y HECHOS: "Water boils at 100°C." "She lives in Paris" = es donde vive (permanente o a largo plazo). (3) ESTADOS (verbos de estado): con verbos como know, understand, believe, like, love, hate, want, need, see, hear — NO se usa el continuo: "I understand" (no "I am understanding"). (4) HORARIOS FIJOS (transporte, programas): "The train leaves at 9." Adverbios tipicos: always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, never, every day.

PRESENT CONTINUOUS: I am working, she is working, they are working (to be + -ing). Tres usos principales: (1) ACCION EN PROGRESO EN ESTE MOMENTO: "She is talking on the phone right now." (2) SITUACION TEMPORAL (no permanente): "I am living with my parents while I look for an apartment" = temporal, no es mi residencia permanente. "She is working in Berlin this month." (3) FUTURO ARREGLADO: "I am meeting the client tomorrow at 10" = tengo este plan ya concretado. Adverbios tipicos: now, right now, at the moment, currently, these days, this week/month.

Error frecuente
"I am knowing the answer" = INCORRECTO. "I am wanting a coffee" = INCORRECTO. "I am understanding you" = INCORRECTO. Los verbos de estado SIEMPRE usan el presente simple: KNOW, UNDERSTAND, BELIEVE, THINK (opinion), WANT, NEED, LIKE, LOVE, HATE, PREFER, SEE, HEAR, FEEL (opinion), SEEM, APPEAR, OWN, BELONG, CONTAIN. "I think she is right" (opinion) vs "I am thinking about the problem" (proceso mental activo). "I see the point" (entiendo) vs "I am seeing a doctor" (tengo cita).
= PRESENT SIMPLE. Es TEMPORAL o esta ocurriendo ahora mismo? = PRESENT CONTINUOUS. "She lives in Madrid" = permanente (vive ahi, es su casa). "She is living in Madrid" = temporal (vive ahi de momento, pero no es permanente). El TRUCO DE LOS VERBOS DE ESTADO: si el verbo describe un ESTADO MENTAL o de POSESION (know, think, believe, want, own, etc.) = NUNCA continuo. Solo el continuo con verbos de ACCION. "I know" (no "I am knowing"). "I am learning" = correcto (aprender es una accion).
Regla rápida
Present simple: rutinas, hechos, estados permanentes, verbos de estado (know, want, understand).
