Anything. ¿Es "nada" y el verbo va sin not? Nothing.

Something

Algo, una cosa que no nombras. Va en oraciones afirmativas y en preguntas donde esperas un sí: Would you like something?

Anything

Algo en preguntas; nada después de not o never: I didn't buy anything. En una afirmativa significa cualquier cosa.

Nothing

Nada.

Do you want anything to eat?

Errores frecuentes

Mal: I don't need nothing.

Bien: I don't need anything.

Mal: I didn't say something.

Bien: I didn't say anything.

Si ya dijiste not, n't o never, usa anything. Si no, nothing hace todo el trabajo: I didn't see anything = I saw nothing. Something es el algo que sí está.

Depende

Something en preguntas con n't
Si la pregunta espera un sí, va something: Didn't she bring something to eat? (crees que sí trajo). Igual en sugerencias: Why don't you eat something?
Anything en afirmativas
Ahí significa "lo que sea": I'll eat anything. No es "nada".

Preguntas frecuentes

¿Cuándo se usa anything y cuándo nothing?

Los dos pueden traducirse "nada". Si el verbo ya lleva not (I don't know anything), va anything. Si el verbo va sin not, nothing: I know nothing.

¿Cuándo se usa something y cuándo anything?

Something en afirmativas y cuando ofreces (Would you like something?). Anything en preguntas abiertas y después de not: Did you see anything?
