Error frecuente
Usar "answer" para mensajes escritos cuando "reply" es mas natural: "I answered his email" funciona pero "I replied to his email" es mas idiomatico. Al reves: "reply the phone" no existe — siempre es "answer the phone". Y "reply the door" definitivamente no existe. La puerta y el telefono solo se "answer".
Truco para recordarlo
Regla de la preposicion: "reply" casi siempre necesita "to" cuando tiene objeto — "reply TO the email", "reply TO his comment". "Answer" va directo — "answer the question", "answer the phone" (sin "to"). Si necesitas poner "to" antes del objeto, probablemente es "reply".

¿Sabías que...?
En correo electronico, los botones "Reply" y "Reply All" (Responder y Responder a todos) son universales en ingles. El boton nunca dice "Answer" en ese contexto. Pero el patron de respuesta automatica fuera de la oficina se llama "Out of Office reply" o "Auto-reply" — no "Auto-answer". Los emails tienen sus propias palabras.
