By, on o in en inglés

By dice cómo viajas (by train); on es estar en un vehículo grande (on the bus); in es estar en uno pequeño y cerrado (in the car).

Regla rápida

By dice el medio, sin the.

By

Con el medio de transporte, sin the: by train, by bike. Dice cómo viajas, no dónde estás.

On

Dónde estás en un vehículo grande o que montas: on the bus, on the plane, on a bike. Se usa con the o a.

In

Dónde estás en un vehículo pequeño y cerrado: in the car, in a taxi.

Si no hay nada, by. On. ¿Es chico y te sientas adentro? In.

Depende

In the bus
Montar encima
Con bicicleta, moto, caballo o patineta se usa on: on a bike. Vas encima, no adentro.

Preguntas frecuentes

¿Se dice on the bus o in the bus?

Lo normal es on the bus, igual que on the train y on the plane. In the bus se oye, pero rara vez para viajar.

¿Cuándo se usa by y cuándo in?

By dice el medio, sin the: by car. In dice dónde estás dentro de un carro: in the car. Las dos ideas no son iguales.

¿Por qué se dice on the plane si estás adentro?
