  • •"On the other hand" implica que presentas dos perspectivas del mismo debate, no simplemente dos hechos distintos.

Truco para recordarlo

  • •"By contrast / In contrast" = diferencia objetiva entre dos elementos distintos (datos, grupos, tendencias).
  • •"On the other hand" = el otro ángulo del mismo tema (pros vs contras, ventaja vs riesgo).

Regla rápida

  • •"By/In contrast" = datos o hechos distintos comparados.
  • •"On the other hand" = segunda perspectiva del mismo tema.
  • •Ambos van seguidos de coma.

¿Sabías que...?

Los hablantes nativos varían sus conectores de contraste con mucha mayor frecuencia. El inglés tiene más de una docena con matices distintos: however, nevertheless, nonetheless, yet, still, even so, that said, all the same, then again, conversely. Aprender sus diferencias es una señal de dominio avanzado.
