"So" intensifica adjetivos y adverbios solos; "such" intensifica grupos de sustantivo (adjetivo + sustantivo).
Adverbio intensificador. Va directamente antes de un adjetivo o adverbio solo, sin sustantivo. Estructura: so + adjetivo. Equivale a "tan" en espanol.
The movie was so boring that I fell asleep halfway through.
La pelicula era tan aburrida que me quede dormido a la mitad.
She speaks so quickly that I can hardly follow.
Ella habla tan rapido que apenas puedo seguirle el hilo.
I am so tired right now. I need a nap.
Estoy tan cansado ahora mismo. Necesito una siesta.
Determinante intensificador. Va antes de un grupo nominal (adjetivo + sustantivo). Estructura: such + a/an + adjetivo + sustantivo (singular) o such + adjetivo + sustantivo (plural o incontable). Equivale a "tal" o "tan... que" en espanol.

Error frecuente
Errores tipicos: "She has so a beautiful voice." Incorrecto — "so" no puede ir antes de "a". Correcto: "She has such a beautiful voice." Y "It was such boring." Incorrecto — "such" no puede ir directamente antes de un adjetivo sin sustantivo. Correcto: "It was so boring." La clave: ¿hay sustantivo despues? such. ¿Solo adjetivo? so.
Truco para recordarlo
Regla simple: busca el sustantivo. ¿Hay sustantivo despues del adjetivo? = such (a) + adj + noun. ¿Solo adjetivo, sin sustantivo? = so + adj. "So boring" (solo adjetivo). "Such a boring movie" (adjetivo + sustantivo). Mismo significado en espanol (tan), diferente estructura en ingles segun si hay sustantivo o no.

¿Sabías que...?
"Such" sin adjetivo puede usarse para enfatizar el sustantivo directamente: "He is such a liar!" (¡Es un tremendo mentiroso!) o "She is such a good teacher!" Pero "so" nunca puede ir directamente antes de un sustantivo. Ademas, tanto "so" como "such" pueden introducir clausulas de resultado con "that": "She was so tired that she slept for twelve hours" / "It was such a long day that she slept for twelve hours." Misma idea, diferente estructura.
