THE SAME AS: expresa que A es IDENTICO O EQUIVALENTE a B — son la misma cosa, del mismo tipo, o tienen el mismo valor. "This approach is the same as the one we used last year" = este enfoque es igual al del ano pasado (son identicos en tipo o metodo). "Her salary is the same as mine" = su salario es igual al mio (mismo valor). THE SAME + sustantivo + AS: "She attended the same university as her mentor" = asistio a la misma universidad que su mentor (identidad de la universidad). THE SAME AS puede usarse con sustantivos, adjetivos predicativos, y clausulas: "The result is the same as I expected" (la misma clausula como objeto). Nunca: "the same than" = INCORRECTO (siempre THE SAME AS, no THAN).

AS...AS: estructura comparativa de IGUAL GRADO. Compara el NIVEL o la CANTIDAD de una cualidad, no la identidad. "She is as experienced as her colleague" = ella es igual de experimentada que su colega (mismo GRADO de experiencia, no necesariamente la misma persona ni el mismo tipo de experiencia). "The project took as long as we expected" = duro tanto como esperabamos. Estructura: AS + adjetivo/adverbio + AS. Negativo: NOT AS...AS (no tan...como): "The results are not as strong as last quarter." Cuidado con la estructura: AS + adjetivo + AS (no "so...as" en ingles americano moderno: "as good as" no "so good as"). EN ESPANOL, "tan... como" puede crear confusion porque "tan bueno como" y "el mismo que" suenan similares en algunos contextos.

Los errores clasicos: (1) "The same than" = INCORRECTO siempre. La unica forma correcta es "the SAME AS": "Her salary is the same AS mine" (no "the same than mine"). (2) "She is as experienced than her colleague" = INCORRECTO. La estructura AS...AS no lleva THAN: "She is AS experienced AS her colleague." (3) Confundir identidad con grado: "His plan is the same as effective as mine" = INCORRECTO. Correcto: si es identidad = "His plan IS THE SAME AS mine." Si es grado = "His plan is AS effective AS mine." (4) "As same as" = INCORRECTO. Solo "the SAME AS" o "AS...AS" por separado, nunca mezclados.

La confusion entre "the same as" y "as...as" tiene raices en el espanol, donde "tan...como" y "igual que" / "el mismo que" son distintas construcciones pero ambas se traducen a comparaciones de igualdad. Esta confusion es mas comun en hispanohablantes que en hablantes de otras lenguas. Pero el fenomeno de confundir identidad y grado en las comparaciones es universal: el ingles mismo ha tenido variacion historica. En el ingles antiguo y medio, "so...as" era la forma estandar de la comparacion de grado igual ("she is so tall as her sister"), y "as...as" fue ganando terreno gradualmente hasta hacerse la forma estandar moderna. Hoy, "so...as" sobrevive solo en ingles britanico formal negativo: "not so tall as" (aunque "not as tall as" es la forma americana estandar). El ingles continental (EEUU) y el british estan convergiendo en "as...as" para ambos usos (afirmativo y negativo).
