Error frecuente
Error muy comun: "I don't like spicy food." — "Me too!" Incorrecto. En una oracion negativa, "me too" no funciona. Correcto: "Me neither!" o "I don't either." A la inversa: "I love the beach." — "Me either!" Incorrecto. En una oracion afirmativa, "either" no funciona como afirmacion. Correcto: "Me too!" La regla es clara: afirmativo = too, negativo = either.
Truco para recordarlo
Too = tambien (oracion positiva). Either = tampoco (oracion negativa). ¿La oracion tiene "not", "never", "neither" u otra negacion? = either. ¿La oracion es positiva? = too. Truco: busca la palabra "not" o cualquier negativo. Si lo encuentras, usa "either". Si no hay negativo, usa "too". En espanol: si dices "tambien" = too. Si dices "tampoco" = either.
Regla rápida
Oracion afirmativa + tambien = too. Oracion negativa + tampoco = either.
¿Sabías que...?
"Me neither" es una forma alternativa muy comun para responder a una oracion negativa: "I don't eat meat." — "Me neither." Es equivalente a "I don't either." Ambas son correctas. Y "so do I" es la forma enfatica de "me too": "She loves traveling." — "So do I." De la misma forma, "neither do I" es la forma enfatica de "me neither": "She doesn't smoke." — "Neither do I." Estas formas invierten sujeto y auxiliar.
