El falso amigo clasico: "I assisted to the meeting." Incorrecto — no fuiste ahi a ayudar. Correcto: "I attended the meeting." En espanol "asistir a" = to attend en ingles. Pero en ingles "to assist" = ayudar. Son falsos amigos directos. Otro error: "She assisted the concert." Incorrecto. Correcto: "She attended the concert."

Misma raiz latina, significado diferente en la practica. Truco: ASSIST tiene la misma raiz que ASISTENTE (el que ayuda al jefe). En ingles, "assistant" = ayudante, no alguien que simplemente esta presente. ATTEND viene de "atencion" — prestas atencion porque estas PRESENTE. Asistir a algo en espanol = ATTEND en ingles. Ayudar a alguien = ASSIST en ingles.

¿Sabías que...?
"Assistance" (ayuda) vs "attendance" (asistencia, presencia). Los dos sustantivos refuerzan la diferencia. Y "attendant" = la persona que atiende en un lugar: "flight attendant" (azafata/sobrecargo), "parking attendant" (encargado del estacionamiento). No es alguien que ayuda en el sentido de "assist" — es alguien cuya funcion es estar presente y atender a los visitantes.
