It-cleft: It was [X] that/who...

IT-cleft enfatiza lo que sigue a IT WAS/IS: "It was JOHN who called" (no otra persona). WH-cleft enfatiza lo que sigue al verbo BE al final: "What we need IS A CLEAR PLAN" (y no otra cosa).

Error frecuente

ERRORES FRECUENTES: (1) IT-CLEFT SIN "THAT/WHO": "It was the CEO approved the plan" = INCORRECTO. La clausula relativa (that/who) es OBLIGATORIA en it-cleft. "It was the CEO WHO/THAT approved the plan." (2) WH-CLEFT CON ORDEN INCORRECTO: "What is I need a plan" = INCORRECTO. La estructura correcta: "What I need IS a plan" (sujeto + verbo + IS + elemento enfatizado). (3) IT-CLEFT CON "IT IS" PARA EVENTOS PASADOS: "It is the CEO who signed the agreement last year" = puede sonar extrano si el evento fue claramente en el pasado. Mas natural: "It was the CEO who signed." (4) CONCORDANCIA DEL VERBO EN CLAUSULA THAT: "It was the directors who was present" = INCORRECTO. El verbo concuerda con "the directors" (plural): "It was the directors who WERE present."

TRUCO DE LA CONTRASTACION: usa it-cleft cuando quieras contrastar con otra posibilidad: "It was JOHN (not Mary) who called."

"It was JOHN who called" coloca "alguien llamo" como informacion dada y "JOHN" como informacion nueva (enfatizada).
