Positive tagvsNegative tag

Oracion positiva = tag negativa; oracion negativa = tag positiva.

Comparación directa

Positive tag
pregunta de confirmacion

QUESTION TAG despues de oracion POSITIVA = TAG NEGATIVA. "She works here, DOESN'T SHE?" = ella trabaja aqui, verdad? "They have left, HAVEN'T THEY?" "He was there, WASN'T HE?" La estructura: repite el AUXILIAR de la oracion principal (o DO/DOES/DID si no hay auxiliar) en NEGATIVO + el pronombre del sujeto. "She works" (no auxiliar, present simple) -> "doesn't she?". "They have" -> "haven't they?". "He was" -> "wasn't he?".

  • The budget for next quarter has already been approved, hasn't it? I thought the board signed off on it last week.

  • You have worked with this client before, haven't you? You should have some context on their communication preferences.

  • She is leading the new product launch, isn't she? I saw her name on the project brief that came through this morning.

Negative tag
pregunta de confirmacion

QUESTION TAG despues de oracion NEGATIVA = TAG POSITIVA. "She doesn't work here, DOES SHE?" = ella no trabaja aqui, verdad? "They haven't left, HAVE THEY?" "He wasn't there, WAS HE?"

  • The report hasn't been sent to the client yet, has it? I want to add one more section before it goes out.

  • They didn't announce the restructuring plan at the all-hands meeting, did they? I heard the communication was delayed.

  • You won't be in the office on Friday, will you? We were thinking of organizing a small farewell for the team.

Error frecuente

Los cuatro errores mas frecuentes: (1) Tag positiva con oracion positiva: "She works here, DOES she?" = INCORRECTO (suena sarcastico en ingles). La regla es OPUESTA: positiva -> negativa: "She works here, DOESN'T she?" (2) No usar el pronombre correcto: "She works here, doesn't HER?" = INCORRECTO. La tag usa el PRONOMBRE DE SUJETO (she, he, it, they, we, you, I). (3) No repetir el AUXILIAR correcto: "She works, isn't she?" = INCORRECTO. "Works" = present simple sin auxiliar -> usa DO: "doesn't she?" (4) "I am right, amn't I?" = suena muy anticuado. La contraccion aceptada: "I am right, AREN'T I?"

"She HAS left" (aux = has, oracion positiva) -> "HASN'T she?" "They DIDN'T finish" (aux = did, oracion negativa) -> "DID they?" Si no hay auxiliar (present simple / past simple sin DO): usa DO/DOES/DID. "She works" -> "doesn't she?" "He went" -> "didn't he?"

Oracion positiva -> tag negativa ("She works, DOESN'T she?"). Oracion negativa -> tag positiva ("She doesn't work, DOES she?"). Repite el auxiliar de la oracion principal. Sin auxiliar = usa DO/DOES/DID.

The team has already reviewed the compliance documentation, _____?

Ejercicio 2 · Elige la correcta

She didn't receive the invitation to the annual dinner, _____?

Ejercicio 3 · Forma la palabra

Complete: "You will be attending the shareholder meeting next Tuesday, _____ you?"

Pista: The sentence is positive ("you WILL be attending"). The auxiliary is "will". What is the NEGATIVE form of "will" for a tag?
