HOW MUCH: cuantificador interrogativo para sustantivos INCONTABLES. Los sustantivos incontables son los que no tienen forma plural natural y no se pueden contar de uno en uno: "water" (agua), "information" (informacion), "money" (dinero), "time" (tiempo), "advice" (consejo), "knowledge" (conocimiento), "furniture" (mobiliario), "progress" (progreso). "How much water do you need?" = el agua no se cuenta en unidades discretas, es incontable. HOW MUCH tambien se usa solo para preguntar el precio: "How much is it?" = cuanto cuesta? ¿Sabías que...?
La categoria de INCONTABLE en ingles no siempre coincide con la categoria equivalente en espanol, y esto crea confusion sistematica. En espanol, "informacion" es incontable (igual que en ingles: "information"). Pero en espanol decimos "dame un consejo" / "dame algunos consejos" — "consejo" es contable en espanol. En ingles, "advice" es SIEMPRE incontable: "Give me some advice" (no "Give me an advice"). Lo mismo con "research": en espanol "investigacion" puede ser contable ("una investigacion", "varias investigaciones"), pero en ingles academico "research" es generalmente incontable: "The research shows..." Estos sustantivos incontables de ingles que tienen equivalentes contables en espanol son una de las principales fuentes de errores gramaticales para hispanohablantes avanzados.
