¿Cuál usar?Básicoverbverb

reachvsarrive

"Reach" llega a un lugar con objeto directo; "arrive" llega con preposicion (at, in) pero sin objeto directo.

Comparación directa

reach
verb

Verbo. Llegar a un lugar o alcanzar algo. SIEMPRE lleva objeto directo: reach + lugar directamente.

  • We reached the summit after six hours of climbing.

  • Call me when you reach the hotel.

    Llamame cuando llegues al hotel.

  • The package finally reached its destination.

El paquete finalmente llego a su destino.

arrive
verb

Verbo. Llegar a un destino. NUNCA lleva objeto directo: siempre necesita una preposicion. "Arrive at" para lugares especificos (edificios, estaciones), "arrive in" para ciudades y paises.

  • She arrived at the airport two hours before her flight.

  • They arrived in Paris on a rainy Tuesday morning.

  • What time did you arrive?

    ¿A que hora llegaste?

Error frecuente

Error clasico: "I arrived to the station." Incorrecto — "arrive" no acepta "to". Correcto: "I arrived at the station." Y "I reached to the station." Incorrecto — "reach" no necesita preposicion. Correcto: "I reached the station." Regla de oro: after "arrive" → use "at" or "in". After "reach" → use the place directly, no preposition.

Truco para recordarlo

REACH = alcanzas el lugar directamente: reach + lugar. ARRIVE = llegas pero con preposicion: arrive at (lugar especifico) / arrive in (ciudad o pais). La clave es "to": nunca uses "arrive to". En espanol, "llegar a" se traduce a "arrive at" para lugares o "reach" directo — el "a" del espanol no equivale al "to" del ingles aqui.

Regla rápida

Reach + lugar (sin preposicion). Arrive + at/in + lugar (nunca "arrive to").

¿Sabías que...?

"Get to" es un sinonimo informal muy comun de ambos: "What time did you get to the office?"
