(como posible solucion). "I tried adding more salt but it still didn't taste right" = probe a anadir mas sal (lo hice como experimento, pero no fue suficiente). CONTEXTO TIPICO: soluciones tecnicas ("try updating the driver"), recomendaciones culinarias, sugerencias medicas alternativas. DIFERENCIA CLAVE: TRY DOING = la accion OCURRE (el sujeto realmente la hace); TRY TO DO = la accion puede o no ocurrir (puede que el intento fracase). El grupo de verbos que cambian de significado segun vayan seguidos de TO + infinitivo o -ING se llama en gramatica inglesa "verbs with non-finite complementation." Los cuatro mas famosos son TRY, REMEMBER, FORGET, y STOP, pero la lista incluye ademas REGRET, MEAN, GO ON, NEED (en el ingles britanico: "The car needs washing" = "The car needs to be washed"). Lo fascinante linguisticamente es que la distincion entre la accion como OBJETIVO (infinitivo) y la accion como REALIDAD O PROCESO (gerundio) es una distincion semantica que se expresa gramaticalmente. En el espanol no existe esta distincion morfologica explícita — "intente abrir el archivo" puede significar tanto TRY TO OPEN como TRY OPENING segun el contexto.
